Toppo Should Have Been The Final Opponent | Dragon Ball Super

By Jeremy Carden

For those of you that have not watched Episode 126, I would suggest clicking off this blog immediately to avoid spoilers.

If you watched the last episode of Super, I am sure you are aware that Toppo was eliminated by Vegeta’s Final Explosion sending him out of bounds.

5a74d9f1670b4

However, I think that Toppo was defeated much too quickly. Considering how awesome it was when he powered up to his God of Destruction state, Episode 125 was amazing compared to this episode. I am not saying that I disliked Episode 126, but it felt rushed for the most part.

The first half of the episode showed Toppo blowing up more rocks than inflicting damage on Android 17. Heck, the first 2-3 minutes of the episode was literally the last couple of minutes from last week’s episode!

I was also cringing at the thought of Piccolo and Beerus being excited that #17 was able to trick Toppo into being covered with rubble from the arena. Don’t get me wrong, it was a crafty strategy that worked. However, I can’t believe they thought a God of Destruction tier opponent would be overtaken by rocks of all things.

DUmF2ukVMAAqyq0 (1)

One of the most epic scenes from last week’s episode was how easily Toppo defeated Frieza. #17 tossing that rock to prevent Frieza from being eliminated led a lot of viewers to believe the Frost Demon would be unconscious for at least one or two episodes. However, Frieza was back in this episode like nothing happened a few seconds ago.

Basically, the first 7-9 minutes of the episode was a game of cat and mouse between Toppo, Frieza and #17 like it was in the last episode. Vegeta got forced into fighting Toppo instead of him confronting the “second fiddle” of Universe 11 as the preview had viewers thinking he would.

I think for a solid minute, Vegeta was being bombarded by energy blasts from Toppo. During this entire scene, I was thinking #17 and Frieza would try to distract Toppo for Vegeta to counter. It just seemed like those two disappeared as soon as Toppo started attacking the Saiyan Prince.

dragon-ball-super-episode-126-pr-660x330

Honestly, I did not enjoy this fight as much as I thought I would. As I mentioned before, it seemed like Toppo was being rushed off the arena. The dialogue between Toppo and Vegeta was more interesting than the actual fight. Last week, Toppo was dominating his opponents. This week, Toppo was being knocked around like a ragdoll by Vegeta. It would have been better if their battle was at least two episodes. Have Vegeta struggling at first, but then pushing Toppo back after gaining a new sense of resolve by thinking of his loved ones.

Yes, I understand that Super is ending in about five episodes. However, this is going to lead to a very rushed ending that will leave a sour taste in the mouths of fans. Seeing the beam collision between the Final Flash and Toppo’s destructive energy was cool. Though it just felt too rushed for me to enjoy the scene. Vegeta thinking about his family and promise to Cabba was interesting. It showed the character growth that he has had since Z. Toppo was almost a representation of Majin Vegeta.

Remember that Toppo threw away everything that made him Toppo. He let go of his sense of good, evil and most importantly his justice. Just as Vegeta let go of what he considered to be petty attachments for Babidi to take his soul to gain enough power to close the gap between himself and Goku.

Going even further back into the Z series, remember that Vegeta told Goku to let go of his soft-heartedness to defeat Frieza. On the contrary, it was his soft heart that allowed him to become enraged enough to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation.

Screenshot_1

This was one of the reasons why the Vegeta vs. Toppo fight should have been extended for at least another episode. We got to see Vegeta draw strength his family. This is very ironic because in the episode “Vegeta’s Respect”, Vegeta questioned if Goku had such amazing power because it was his sense of duty to protect his friends and loved ones. However, when Vegeta found himself with a family of his own, he did not get any sort of power increase.

All of that made the moment where he berated Toppo for surrendering his justice even better. The problem was that the scene was over in the blink of an eye, and did not have enough time for those words to sink in. There was more time spent on Vegeta’s fists pounding Toppo in the face or destroying the energy blasts sent his way. All of that looked good, but it would have been cooler to see Toppo somewhat second guessing his decision.

Even though the Final Explosion was incredible to see once again, this fight did not seem worthy of one. Vegeta did not seem to be having that much of a difficult time against Toppo that he would have to resort to using his suicidal technique.

After Vegeta lashed out at Toppo, he was not able to even land a hit on the Saiyan. All of this made Toppo’s feats in the last episode even less impressive because a few seconds later Vegeta is beating the tar out of him.

It appears that Super seems to have allow these fighters to use techniques that have life-threatening effects doing nothing more than lead to exhausted from a severe loss of energy and stamina. We saw this with the Evil Containment Wave in the Goku Black Saga when Goku used it on Zamasu in the manga. He did not have enough energy to go Super Saiyan Blue but resorted to Super Saiyan God to fight the immortal Kai. Even Roshi used the wave several times in the tournament without dying!

Apparently, if a character is powerful enough then their ki is severely drained but not the entirety of their life force.

It reminded me of the videos games where Majin Vegeta uses the Final Explosion but survives with only one hit point and nearly zero ki left.

god_of_destruction_toppo

Overall, Toppo was wasted in the Tournament of Power. Not only did he fail to eliminate even ONE opponent, but he had more success blowing up the arena than knocking off fighters.

Now, why did I mention that Toppo should have been the final opponent?

It all goes back to how Super began. This series started with the introduction of god-tier characters like Whis and Beerus. The challenge that Goku and Vegeta faced was gaining the power necessary to compete with these beings.

Super should have ended with Goku and Vegeta overcoming someone who is in the same league as a God of Destruction. If anything, I think it would be like a graduation or right of passage for them.

Toppo represented what Goku and Vegeta declined from Whis. They turned down the chance to be trained as the next God of Destruction of Universe 7. Vegeta asked Whis to take him on as a student, but Whis mentioned that he would only train the next God of Destruction.

maxresdefault

After the battle with Beerus in the Battle of Gods movie, Whis asked if Goku would like to take Beerus’ position after he died. The Saiyan turned down the offer, but he was more than willing to join Vegeta on Beerus’ planet to train.

Instead of sharing how to utilize the powers of a God of Destruction, it seems like Whis was more focused on teaching the Saiyans the following things:

  • Ki control
  • Sensing beings with divine energy
  • Recognizing their flaws
    • Goku is too relaxed leaving himself open to attack
    • Vegeta is too stressed which prevents him from reacting fast enough in combat
  • Learning how to work together
  • Letting their bodies act naturally in combat by fighting without thinking
    • Ultra Instinct; something even Beerus has yet to master

What made the training more effective was the Saiyans sparring with each other. Whis commented that those two training together was advancing their skills even faster than training with him.

hyperbolic-620x

While they were training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in preparation for the Universe 7 vs.  Universe 6 Tournament, Goku mentioned that sparring with Vegeta was allowing him to see his own weaknesses. Vegeta begrudgery agreed with that comment before going at it again with his rival.

dragon-ball-super-episode-19

The one thing Whis was unable to teach his students was how to work together. These two did not mince words when expressing their desire to get stronger and fighting separately instead of as a unit.

Even Whis pointed this out when Jiren was being thrown off balance by Goku and Vegeta after the Saiyan Prince reached his new limit-breaker form. The Saiyans were fighting at the same time against Jiren, but they were not synchronized which proved effective against the silent alien.

Considering that Vegeta gave his all against Toppo, I do not think he and Goku will be fusing against Jiren. I believe #17 and Vegeta will be eliminated at some point before the finale. The last Universe 7 fighters will be Goku and Frieza.

Screenshot_296

Nothing is confirmed, but I do not doubt that these two will be the last ones standing based on a Dragon Ball Heroes trailer last year. In the trailer, we saw Jiren standing against Golden Frieza and Goku. I think the finale will be Goku once again using Ultra Instinct to fight Jiren.

Not to mention, Frieza was nowhere to be seen after the Final Explosion. We know that Frieza was not eliminated because he was not teleported to the sidelines with the gods and other defeated fighters. I think he will be in hiding until the right moment to either land a decisive blow or have Jiren and Goku eliminate each other so he wins the Super Dragon Balls.

sub-eng-vegeta-vs-toppo-dragon-b-660x330

Overall, Toppo should have been the final obstacle for Goku and Vegeta to overcome. Either by Fusion, tag-teaming or mastering their limit-breaker/Ultra Instinct powers, the Saiyans could topple the God of Destruction candidate to save their universe.

By extension, there would be nothing left for Whis to teach them. Perhaps at some point they could challenge Beerus again, but for now they could move on with their lives away from Beerus’ planet.

This could explain Goku’s blue gi at the end of Z. However, those are just my thoughts on the subject because Toppo seemed to be a much more interesting character than Jiren. Not just in his personality, but also in his characteristics and justice-themed attacks.

Screenshot_301

Toppo throwing away his beliefs in favor of destruction is a contrast to Vegeta holding onto his pride and Goku holding onto to his battle hungry spirit. That is why these two could not become the God of Destruction of Universe 7 because doing so meant letting go of who they are.

RANT: Piccolo’s Elimination | Dragon Ball Super

by Jeremy Carden

Universe_Survival_Arc_Eyecatch

I knew from the beginning that not all of Universe 7’s Team would make it to the finale of the Tournament of Power.

After tonight’s episode, their team is down to 6 fighters. When you really think about it, MOST of their remaining fighters still have a good deal of stamina.
DBS_18_&_17_teaming_up

Androids 17 and 18 do not get exhausted, and 18’s hurt ankle is arguably the only ‘weakness’ within the Android Duo at the moment.

Frieza has only been toying around with his prey, and has gone Golden twice if I’m not mistaken. He did once while playing a facade with Gohan against Frost, and then briefly to take out Super Saiyan 2 Cabba. Aside from that, he’s donated energy to Goku twice; once for the Spirit Bomb and again after he was depleted from fighting Jiren.
dragon-ball-super

Vegeta has been a key player in that he’s been pacing himself, taken out the most fighters in the tournament (right behind Goku by a couple of fighters) and the only time he has gone anywhere close to all-out was against Toppo, but that fight was constantly getting interrupted.

According to Gohan, the ONLY time he has truly used his full power was against the Universe 6 Namekians. Yes, he did go Ultimate briefly against Frieza and Universe 10’s final fighter, but he stated FULL POWER was only used on the Nameks.

And of course, we all know Goku has been exhausted yet pushing himself for quite sometime now.

Now, we get to the fighters that HAVE been eliminated. In my opinion, Master Roshi was the only one of the four to have a decent elimination.

-Piccolo was eliminated by the ‘invisible bug’ and then 17 points out that all of them focus too much on ki signature and energy readings instead of the more obvious things like sound.

That’s all well and good, but for PICCOLO to be eliminated because he failed to HEAR something is utter trash!
Screenshot_149
Yes, I know this fact is non-canon that I’m about to mention but even in the original Broly film, Piccolo joked about hearing King Kai and Goku telepathically speaking about the threat in the Southern Galaxy, and Piccolo took one of Bulma’s spaceships to help out the gang. He even sarcastically said with ears as big as his that he could hear any conversation in the universe. Over-hyping his hearing but it should be acute indeed!

As someone who is mentioned by others and even himself about being one of the most tactical fighters and minds of Universe 7, I think this was one of the DUMBEST ways to eliminate Piccolo!

The only “good” that could come from Piccolo losing is that it pushes Gohan to fight on harder than ever before.

Episode 119 of Super was just awful in my opinion…
Let’s hope that any future eliminations of Team Universe 7 will get handled better than the awful three mentioned above.

Could Kefla Defeat Jiren? | Dragon Ball Super

by Jeremy Carden

Obviously, this post will contain spoilers about the results of Dragon Ball Super Episode 116. Make sure you take that into consideration before going any further.

Now, I am glad that this episode took its time in terms of having the characters describing the amount of power each fighter had. However, I think that Kefla was way too overpowered!

Screenshot_40

For starters, Whis stated that Super Saiyan Kefla’s power rivaled that of the Universe 7 Spirit Bomb; which Roshi said would have defeated Jiren had it hit its target. This explains how Kefla was able to push Goku far enough for him to reactivate Ultra Instinct.

Screenshot_41

After she went Super Saiyan 2 against Goku, Piccolo theorized that her power might have even surpassed Goku’s during his first bout with Jiren using Ultra Instinct!

Screenshot_44

Before charging at Goku, Kefla boasts that she feels like her power could destroy an ENTIRE universe!

FotoJet (43)

It is hard to believe that only a couple of days ago, these female Saiyans did not even know what Super Saiyan was. Now, they have obtained one transformation after another, and Potara on top of that!

Fans have been in an uproar about the Universe 6 Saiyans obtaining all of these transformations with ease, but Universe 7 Saiyans had to go through years of training to obtain their power.

I do not fault Cabba at all because for the two levels of Super Saiyan he has gained, he had to actually work for them! His body was nearly broken and his emotions were pushed to the limits. Even though he is weaker than Kale and Caulifla, I think his characters speaks volumes above the girls.

Screenshot_52

After becoming enraged over her attacks not hitting Goku, Kefla digs even deeper for more power. Cabba states her power is swelling even larger than before, and Roshi says Goku would lose if he got hit with even one of her attacks at this level.

In the video below, I go into far more detail about Kefla’s power. However, I think that she was written to be too much of a good thing. Yes, it was good to have female Super Saiyans introduced into the franchise, but it was all too much too soon.

It is crazy to think that if she went Super Saiyan 3, her power would have been multiplied by four. However, I think that four would have been the minimum increase because of her bottomless potential! For all we know, she might have obtained some sort of Super Saiyan 3 Berserker transformation! Which I think would have been the trigger to defusing Kefla before the battle could be won.

Remember that Super Saiyan Gotenks could only be utilized for five minutes before Goten and Trunks’ Fusion Dance would split. So, Gotenks had to think carefully before using this form.

Screenshot_47

Screenshot_49

Based on the two pictures above, I actually thought that she was going to go Super Saiyan 3 based on her frustration and posture. That hunched positioning of the body is the typical stance for someone about to go Super Saiyan 3!

Considering all of the power that she was using, I was not going to be the least bit surprised had she defused before landing a finishing blow on Goku.

Screenshot_5804

I dare say that she may have been able to surpass even Jiren! That might come across as an unbelievable statement, but look at what the writers have done with her so far.

Overall, I have watched the episode around eight times alright. It literally felt like a Dragon Ball Z episode because the first 8-9 minutes consisted of nothing but Goku and Kelfa powering up while everyone is in awe of their strength!

I was a bit bored in the sense that watching two characters fighting, but one not being able to land a blow can get kind of old. Anyone reading this a Pokemon anime/video game fan?

434

Don’t you feel that same level of annoyance whenever an opponent uses Double Team, Sand Attack or anything to increase their ability to dodge attacks? It gets so annoying because the battle drags on longer than it should because one Pokemon can’t land an attack at all, and their opponent just attacks whenever it wants to.

One of the worst examples of this was in the Black and White anime (arguably, the worst Pokemon series). It was during the finals of the Jr. Cup World Tournament between Trip’s Serperior and Ash’s Pignite.

During this tournament, Serperior was able to make quick work of every opponent that it was up against. To add insult to injury, this was the only Pokemon that Trip used in the entire tournament. Pignite did everything that it could, but none of its attacks landed.

93a

Serperior was just using its natural speed without the use of a move like Double Team and it was able to move around each attack like it was nothing. Heck, Pignite was spamming Flame Charge to increase its speed, but even that did not work! That resulted in probably one of the worst battles to watch because it was about five minutes of straight attacking and dodging until Serperior won…

Screenshot_55

I did not feel as upset about watching Goku and Kefla but it was almost getting to that point. However, Goku made up for it with that EPIC Kamehameha to the face! It was so epic that we had to see it THREE times from different angles before Kefla was knocked out of the match.

1511057926-CV-Dragon-Ball-Super-116-kefla

At least in this episode, we get a twist since Whis points out that even though Goku is handling Kefla with ease, he can’t utilize Ultra Instinct when he attacks because he is still “thinking” of the attack instead of naturally allowing himself to attack. That explains how Kefla as able to get up and dust herself off after each attack.

That is kind of ironic because Kefla’s attacks had the potential to defeat Goku if even one blast landed, but none of Goku’s moves that made contact could finish the job!

Maybe he will be able to master Ultra Instinct before his next match with Jiren.

Do you think Kefla was too overpowered? Do you think she could have defeated Jiren had she obtained Super Saiyan 3? Are you a bit surprised that she did not defuse after exhausting so much power as an enraged Super Saiyan 2?

Dragon Ball Super: What Is Champa Planning?

By Jeremy Carden

Dragon_Ball_Super_logo

Beerus’ brother from Universe 6 has shown himself to be a pretty interesting character. We have not seen too much from him in the anime, but we have gotten a glimpse of his character in the manga.

We already know the basics in terms of who he is and what he does. Champa is Beerus’ brother from the universe connected to his. He is also a God of Destruction, and has an attendant (Vados) who assists him in his role.

beerus_and_champa_by_shugotenshix-d9kswrc

He and his brother used to fight in the past, but their brawls usually resulted in galactic destruction (as seen in a flashback in the manga). Because of the destruction linked to their physical confrontations, we learn that they now have food competitions. Basically, they compare foods from Universe 6 and Universe 7 to see which one has the best dishes.

Considering that they are brothers, I can understand that there is a natural rivalry between the two just like normal siblings. However, Chama seems to be hiding something from Beerus…

This goes back to the manga because he and Vados are trying to navigate around Universe 7 without being detected by Beerus.

uvnwk1wkceuypzzwowhk

When they are first seen in the manga, they see Beerus fighting against Goku on King Kai’s Planet. They use this opportunity to continue their search for the wish-granting orbs.

Later, they detect Whis and Beerus going to Earth (in the search of the Super Saiyan God), and Champa ventures to another part of the universe.

champa-pointe-le-bout-de-son-nez

Eventually, Old Kai and Kibito Kai are spotted spying on Champa and Vados. It was right after a planet was destroyed by the pair because it was not the one they were searching for.

The kais found out that they are looking for the Dragon Balls, and are approached by an irritated Champa. He demands to learn what they had overheard, but they denied hearing anything at all.

4to-manga-Dragon-Ball-Super-768x402

Soon after, Champa destroyed one of the Frieza Force ships that was searching for the Dragon Balls.

scan-del-cuarto-numero-del-manga-de-dragon

He and Vados decide to head back to their universe, but only after they find a souvenir for Beerus.

In anime, Whis and Beerus are heading towards Earth to witness the battle between the Super Saiyans and Golden Frieza. Whis notices someone else traveling a great speed, and it turns out to be his sister.

Dragon-Ball-Super-Champa-Arc (1)

Vados and Champa are face to face with Whis and Beerus. The two brothers stare each other down, and Champa orders Vados to take out Beerus. He says that the reason he does not want to fight is because he is too lazy. This mirrors what he said when he ordered Vados to destroy a planet because it was not one of the Super Dragon Balls.

Beerus demands to know what he is doing in his universe, but Champa says that it is nothing suspicious about it before departing. After that, Beerus and Whis continue on their journey to Earth. Champa and Vados go to another part of the universe to continue their search, and that is the last time that we will see them until the Champa Saga starts tonight!

zF1vZwz

In both the anime and manga, Champa seems to be hiding something from Beerus. We eventually learn that he is searching for the Super Dragon Balls which are planet-sized orbs.

Originally, I thought that both Universe 6 and 7 each had a set of these Super Dragon Balls.

dbsmanga1_zpsrwzkiyye

However, it turns out that all 7 are scattered between both universes, and Champa already has 6 of them.

He eventually arises on Beerus’ planet where he meets Goku and Vegeta. After another one of their food challenges, the two brothers setup a tournament between universes. The winner will get the Earth of Universe 7 (because of its delicious food), and take home the 6 Super Dragon Balls that have already been collected.

chozetsu_dynamic_cover_le

Everyone at this point who has been reading the manga knows what happens from this point forward. Both teams arrive at the tournament grounds, and the fight has already begun in Chapter 8 of the manga.

This is really where I need to stop because there is one huge unanswered question that still puzzles me…

Super_Dragon_Balls

Why was Champa gathering the Super Dragon Balls to begin with?

Beerus was unaware of the Super Dragon Balls, but Champa seems to have been collecting them for quite some time. Even time in fact that leads me to believe that he has traveled to Universe 7 on multiple occasions undetected in order to collect them all.

I find it hard to believe that the only reason he wanted to gather them was to get his hands on Universe 7’s Earth for the food. There is no need to use the balls for that because the winner of the tournament gets Earth.

tumblr_mvrqx9nkcn1qc1jg4o1_400

Not to say that he looks evil simply because he is a “Fat Beerus.” Remember that the Good Buu was fat while the Evil Buu was skinny.

He just seems to be hiding something that he does not want his brother to find out about. He could want to use the orbs to wish for control over all 13 universes, or that he was the most powerful God of Destruction.

4486126-dragon-ball-z-2015-movie-screenshot-12

Beerus confirmed in Battle of Gods that some of the universes out there bred beings more powerful than himself and Whis. Perhaps Champa does not want to be ranked in the lower tier of Gods of Destruction, and wants to achieve power through wishes rather than training.

He did say that he was lazy so it would not surprise me if he planned to wish his way to the top rather than actually earning.

At this point, I can only speculate so much about his true intentions, but I think it is safe to say that he is up to no good. Maybe there is another being from one of the other 11 universes that will arrive at the tournament to take the Super Dragon Balls for themselves.

dragon-ball-super-episode-28-preview-trailer-synopsis-universe-6s-god-of-des

The possibilities are endless, and I cannot wait to see what Champa really does have up his sleeves.

What do you think of this theory? Do you think that Champa is up to no good?

Dragon Ball Super: Will Captain Ginyu Return?

By Jeremy Carden

GOT_YOU_1

I don’t know about you, but I am actually excited that we will see the Purple Power Ranger…I mean leader of the Ginyu Force make a return to the main series!

power-rangers

Seriously, with all of the poses that the team did, you would not be considered a fool if you thought they were the Power Rangers.

Frog_Ginyu_in_Super

Dragon Ball Super has made a couple of slight changes so far to the Resurrection F movie, and one that has caught the attention of fans was the appearance of Ginyu Frog after Frieza was brought back to life.

There is even an upcoming episode title that mentions Ginyu and his trademark Body Change technique! This will be the 22nd episode titled “Tagoma is it play a more power-ups to change the Ginyu and body.

Tagoma_headshot_RoF

Basically, it has all but been confirmed that Tagoma will somehow get swapped with Ginyu.

GinyuBulmaChange.Ep.089

In the anime filler, Bulma created a device which allowed Frog Ginyu to speak clear English. This led to her having her body switched with Ginyu because he communicated “Change!” outside of the native tongue of a Namekian Frog.

How will he change with Tagoma?

RoF5

My own personal theory is that he somehow changes bodies with the nameless frog solider (only referred to as Subordinate) in Frieza’s army who took orders from Sorbet in the anime/manga/movie because he is a humanoid frog.

It would not surprise me if he could speak a language understood only be frogs, and Ginyu changes with him before getting to Tagoma.

1444312618-73c33cd11ab9a3c4544610b524d50a6f

In any case, we will see Ginyu again with is enough for me! I wonder how far his character will be utilized in the war with Frieza. I doubt he will make that much of a difference such as switching bodies with the likes of Goku or Beerus.

That would be interesting to see…

CaptainGinyuFrog

You never know where the series is going to take things!

I did find it interesting that Tagoma expressed more doubts about Frieza’s usefulness to their army by his revival due to his less than impressive appearance.

DXRD_Caption_of_Tagoma_recalls_Captain_Ginyu_talks_with_Frieza_next_to_Dodoria

We got to see a brief flashback of Tagoma on one of Frieza’s many planets, and he saw the space tyrant speaking with Dodoria and Ginyu. He only saw Frieza for a brief moment, but was not impressed at all.

Considering that he was not killed by Frieza in the anime like he was in the manga/movie, I am glad to see his role given a bit more depth in the series.

CaptainGinyuFrogEp93

Ironic that he was unimpressed by the midget Frieza, and he will eventually be turned into a tiny frog!

dragon-ball-z_web2

Apparently, he will train with Frieza during the 4 months before his arrival on earth. This will make Tagoma a very powerful warrior, and he will fight with Gohan before swapping bodies with Ginyu!

This could be the reason why Ginyu picked him to swap bodies with because Tagoma had become the most powerful warrior in Frieza’s army!

ShisamiVsPiccoloRoF2

I wonder if that was how Shisami got so powerful in the movie which made him able to fight toe-to-toe with Piccolo…

tumblr_inline_nkm606v00R1sowhjk

Hopefully, we will get some background information on Frieza’s training through flashbacks or something!

GinyubodyChange

What kind of role do you think Ginyu will play during Dragon Ball Super? Will he swap bodies with one of the Saiyans or Gods?

Dragon Ball Z: Majin Vegeta vs. Super Saiyan 2 Teen Gohan

By Jeremy Carden

tumblr_m93eeg5MWe1rduf3ho1_1280

A Saiyan Prince returned to his roots vs. a Saiyan-Human hybrid that has finally let his anger fully rise to the surface.

Dragon Ball fans have discussed this battle for quite some time. It may not be one of the more well-known topics of discussion, but I have seen some heated arguments about the victor of this match.

tumblr_mz0itj9Yre1rmbhf9o1_500

Keep in mind that Majin Vegeta will be facing the Super Saiyan 2 Gohan seen during the Cell Saga.

tumblr_mab483qZPB1ra5a63o1_500

Ultimate Gohan is a lot stronger than he was against Cell (at least in terms of power alone).

However, Gohan had not trained for 7 years. This means that even though his power was truly brought to the surface after Old Kai’s ritual; he did not instantly regain the fighting instinct that he had during his pre-teen years.

tumblr_inline_njy56w0k6U1r2o8ah

Majin Vegeta is the persona of Vegeta that had buried ever since he opened his heart while living on earth. He was practically the bloodthirsty Saiyan that he was prior to his first meeting with Goku and the Z-Fighters.

That is why I would find this battle so interesting because Vegeta (now living by his Saiyan heritage alone) would be facing off with a Gohan that has let his Saiyan half take control of the wheel.

Basically, we would be seeing 2 Saiyans itching for a good fight!

Who would be the victor?

Let’s take a look at some key elements that could decide the winner of this Super Saiyan duel.

Power:

Goku

In the anime AND manga when Goku powered up to Super Saiyan 2. Vegeta said that he (Goku) was “at least more powerful than your son (Gohan) was against Cell.”

Remember that even Goku was surprised when Majin Vegeta powered up, and stated that the fight might take longer than he had originally thought.

Considering that Vegeta was literally even with Goku at SS2 (no SS3 here folks), both Saiyans had surpassed the Gohan seen during the Cell Games.

Even though Vegeta is more powerful, I do not think that he would be able to walk away from this battle without a scratch.

Motivation:

tumblr_n4pign8gyh1r72ht7o1_500

Keep in mind that until the moment Goku sacrificed himself by taking the self-destructing Cell to King Kai’s Planet, Gohan was literally acting like a Saiyan since the moment that he turned SS2.

He was finally letting his timid and reserved temperament take a backseat, and his Saiyan instincts were running the show. Gohan would be looking for an opponent to test out his new power against.

Dragon_ball_z_vol_68_babidi_rivals_image_oTPbVUjVjWTdLjq

Majin Vegeta was basically Vegeta letting go of his “human emotions” that he developed while living on earth and the family he created with Bulma. He was basically acting and fighting like he was prior to coming to earth for the Dragon Balls.

This would be the Saiyan Prince from the past that would never allow another being to rival his power (which he claimed was (#1 in the universe). For a half-breed kid to try and fight him would be something that he would never accept. That is why Vegeta would be giving it his all to squash Gohan.

Skill:

Time Chamber Training

Gohan’s fighting skills were at their best during the Cell Games because he learned everything from his father (minus things like Kaio-Ken, Spirit Bomb and Instant Transmission, etc.). We saw that Goku’s skills were enough to keep Majin Vegeta on his toes, and I’m sure that Gohan would be able to do the same.

I think what would make this fight even more spectacular than the battle against Cell would be the fact that Gohan would be facing someone MORE powerful than he was.

Vegeta would be an opponent that Gohan could not just toss around like he was nothing, and he would have to use 100% power from the start.

Gohan would finally be letting his inner Saiyan out to the surface, and even though Vegeta had decades of practice with that kind of life; I think Gohan would be scarier because he has Saiyan blood plus human rage to further his spectacular power.

You cannot dismiss the fact that Buu Saga Vegeta had been training for nearly 7 whole years, but not to the extreme level that he did for the Androids. He reduced some of his solo training in order to train Trunks from the present timeline.

Could his brutal skills match up with Gohan who is also brutal, BUT has the training of Goku under his belt?

During his battle with Cell, Gohan was letting the battle drag on to make the Android suffer.

Vegeta likes to taunt his opponents into showing their true power or willingly let them increase their strength for a greater challenge (even if it leads to his ass being handed to him).

Both were landing powerful blows to their opponents. Gohan was pulling off an impressive massacre against the Cell Jrs.

Instead of quickly defeating Cell, Gohan was willing to make him suffer with crippling blows that dealt him great pain.

picgifs-dragon-ball-z-220486

Majin Vegeta was trying to kill Goku (who was already dead at the time) with brutal tactics. Seriously, they were fighting at full force, but you could tell that Vegeta was going for blood!

These two were MADE to battle each other!

tumblr_n8x5u7J4xy1r72ht7o1_500

Overall, I think that Majin Vegeta would be the victor, but it would be one hell of a fight!

If you told me that Gohan came out as the victor, I wouldn’t be surprised. I’d just want to know how he pulled it off!

Gohan coming out the victor could be the result of Vegeta doing a Saiyan monologue allowing his opponent to get the upper hand.

teen_gohan_super_saiyan_3_colored_by_blaze125521-d4w1edc

Not to mention, Vegeta could push Gohan into a corner and despite his power being at this peak; Gohan might be able to dig even deeper to tap into an even higher level of power!

father_son_kamehameha_by_evil_black_sparx_77-d5dogf3

The Father-Son Kamehameha Wave could be considered a tag-team attack. Would that be fair in this 1-on-1 battle?

Goku was technically there “in spirit” so Gohan is allowed to use the attack in this fight because Goku wouldn’t be adding his ki to Gohan’s attack.

Majin_Vegeta_FE_gif

Despite Majin Vegeta’s ultimate attack being the Final Explosion, I do not know if he could use it in this battle. The reason is because if he uses the attack; he dies along with his opponent (assuming it is enough to take them out).

I am not even 100% certain that Gohan would even put up that good of a battle to make Vegeta resort to a kamikaze attack…

12096218_1137597382926306_4669758975077483999_n

Overall, this battle is one that I would love to see in some form of media (outside of the video games in the player’s own what-if battles).

Who do you think would come out on top?

Dragon Ball Z: How Did Pikkon Die?

By Jeremy Carden

I love how characters can be introduced into a series for a handful of episodes, but easily become fan favorites because of the impact that they had on the series. Some characters have great back stories, are extremely powerful or have a mysterious factor to them that makes fans want more.

PikkonOtherWorldTNV

Pikkon is one of these characters, and this Piccolo-like character has had fans wanting him to appear in the series more for quite some time now.

tumblr_md6p3ovNXz1qcsesho1_400

He only appears in a handful of filler episodes on the Grand Kai’s Planet, but he is one of the most powerful characters in the series (at least during the time that he was introduced). During Goku’s stay in the Other World, we find out that anyone that has died a heroic death is allowed to keep their body in order to train in death.

There are so many unanswered questions about Pikkon, and I am sure that you have read memes on the internet about him.

pikkondbz

Above is one of my favorite memes, and it does create more curiosity about Pikkon’s demise. We do not know how long he has been dead, but I think that it is safe to say that he was not as powerful as he was shown to be in the series during the time of his death.

tumblr_mjzdue5r9M1r72ht7o1_500

Seriously, he took out King Cold and Frieza as easily as Beerus took out Super Saiyan 3 Goku!

Most fans are quick to assume that Pikkon is Super Saiyan 2-tier after he “defeated” Cell with one attack! I must admit that I thought the same back when I first got into DB, but you have to take into consideration that Pikkon caught Cell completely off-guard.

PikkonBurningShot

His Burning Shoot attack is similar to the Kaio-Ken which is a power boosting technique for a temporary increase in strength and speed.

Similar to how Master Shen’s Dodon Ray could be seen as the counterpart of Master Roshi’s Kamehameha. You could speculate that the Burning Shoot was West Kai’s own technique to rival North Kai’s Kaio-Ken.

WestKai

That would make sense considering that the two were always competing with each other, and their techniques would rival each other.

While the Kaio-Ken gives the user a blazing aura, the Burning Shoot literally gives the user a “blazing aura” of flames! It is unknown if the technique allows Pikkon to increase it multiple levels like the Kaio-Ken, but it was shown to be extremely powerful during the one time that we actually saw it used.

PikkonThuderFlash

I think it is safe to assume that during life, Pikkon did not have techniques in his arsenal such as the Burning Shoot or the Thunder Flash Attack. Those moves probably came from his training with the West Kai.

Pikkon_Clothing

Moving back to the subject of his power, I think that he might be Super Saiyan 2-tier at his maximum; when removing his weights to increase his power.

tumblr_mgnyex71F01qfbz1so1_500

The proof of this comes from the brief moment that Goku uses the Super Kaio-Ken. Even though he was dead, Goku’s body could not handle the increase in strength that the technique provided.

Super Kaio-Ken basically doubled Full Power Super Saiyan Goku’s power level, and that is basically equal to what his power would have been as a Super Saiyan 2.

tumblr_npos7uP84h1usdbrio1_500

Remember that Super Saiyan 2 is twice the power of Super Saiyan 1/Full Power Super Saiyan, but the Kaio-Ken arguably puts a greater strain on the body than a regular Super Saiyan transformation. King Kai says that using the techniques in a damaged/weakened state, or going too high in the Kaio-Ken levels could destroy the user’s body.

Goku was weakened during his fight with Pikkon, but his opponent barely had a scratch on him. “Super Saiyan 2 Goku” (Super Kaio-Ken) was able to land a single punch that sent Pikkon into one of the orbiting planets or moons above the arena, but he was able to recover quickly for a counterattack.

gokuvspikkonep199

Given the fact that Pikkon took a “Super Saiyan 2” level punch to the face without any damage hints at his power potentially giving the likes of even Super Saiyan 2 Gohan from the Cell Games a run for his money!

Keep in mind that this is Pikkon WITHOUT using the Burning Shoot to further increase his power!

Gohan-dragon-ball-z-34844057-500-374

Full Power Super Saiyan Gohan’s power was greater than Goku’s was during his time at the Cell Games. However, it wasn’t a massive gap in power between father-and-son. With that being said, if Goku went Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Games, Gohan would be stronger…but not by THAT much power.

4243305-pikkondbz

In any case, we can assume that Pikkon’s death was probably due to a fight that ended to him losing his life due to defeat or sacrificing himself for someone else (like Goku did against Raditz and Cell).

This could explain his serious personality and desire to get stronger. Perhaps his motivation for training was to prevent him from losing to anyone else again, or to protect people from threats even in death. This just goes to show how noble of a character he is.

DragonBallZVillainsInHell

Considering that Grand Kai sends him to Hell to calm down new inmates, we know that he is a character not to be taken lightly in strength and he was potentially the #1 fighter in Other World until Goku died fighting Cell.

4019765-1298944739-Pikko

We know that his Piccolo-like personality was “erased” during Fusion Reborn. Writers from the show say that this was done in order to separate his character from Piccolo because if you re-watch the Other World Tournament Saga, it is almost impossible to not see Pikkon as just another Piccolo.

Pikkon_ssj4_goku

Overall, he is a great character that I would not mind seeing during Dragon Ball Super or other DB related media. Canon or non-cannon, I think that he is one of my favorite characters from the show!

tumblr_mgnzm1HHBs1qfbz1so1_500

How do you think Pikkon died? How strong do you think he was before dying, and how strong do you think he was when he met Goku? Could he defeat Super Saiyan 2 Gohan in his prime?
