What Are The Writers Doing With Barry This Season? | CW’s The Flash

By Jeremy Carden

Let me start off by saying that I am a fan of CW’s The Flash series. However, Season 4 has gotten a lot of complaints from fans. Season 3 had a knack for stirring up the fanbase because of how long it took for them to reveal to identity of Savitar.

fla405c-0028b-1042195

Season 4 has been a bag of trail mix for most viewers, and that is the nicest way that I could describe this season. From Iris leading Team Flash and using the phrase “WE are The Flash” to their being too many cooks in the kitchen (referring to the number of metas on Team Flash that it seems ridiculous that they couldn’t easily overcome any meta-of-the-week threat that comes their way in a matter of minutes), I have seen a new complaint every Tuesday that a new episodes airs.

The sad part about this routine is that most of the complaints this season are valid. For this post, I want to focus on one character rather than most of the problems littered throughout this season.

wOSemObWIC4

Barry Allen is the victim of my latest “rant” when it comes to The Flash!

True, a lot of fans will often complain about Barry’s speed being highly inconsistent or how he should be beyond any speedster at this point after being trapped in the Speed Force between Seasons 3 and 4.

dXK02RMWqgrjl7YeBcrW4txyGe7

However, I am not here to talk about The Flash and his powers. I want to focus on Barry Allen the person.

If you ask me, I am not even sure if the writers even know what to do with Barry this season. In a lot of ways, he seems to be more of an obstacle than a help to Team Flash.

Yes, I have been hard on Iris West-Allen from the start of this season. However, I cannot sit here and not act like Barry hasn’t been causing trouble within the team.

The_Mechanic_Kim_Engelbrecht_and_Clifford_DeVoe_Neil_Sandilands

I think that it was made clear even during the opening episodes of this season that there would be a parallel between the relationships of Barry/Iris and The Thinker/Mechanic.

Each episode we see Devoe and Barry acting very cold, calculating and distant to those around them. However, we see the difference in their lifestyles because Barry has a support system comprised of friends and family that are not afraid to tell him that he is wrong (which has been quite a lot this season). Devoe has his wife to be that support for him, but he does not choose to listen to her even when she is 100% correct about something.

To be honest, I think we saw this side of Barry back in Season 3 after seeing the possible future of Iris being killed by Savitar. Not that I would want anyone to go through this punishment, but I suggest going back and watching a few episodes during the second half of that season.

the-flash-keiynan-lonsdale-grant-gustin-01-900x600

There were plenty of times when Barry was a complete asshole (especially to Wally) because his main objective was keeping Iris safe at all cost; even at the expense of his team.

To be honest, he really reminded me of Rip Hunter from Legends of Tomorrow. His mission stands above everything and everyone else. It doesn’t matter who he must throw under the bus to achieve his goal. Heck, Rip almost got Jefferson killed near the end of Legends Season 1 when they were on their way back to the Vanishing Point with Vandal Savage in the holding cell.

What really annoys me about Barry is the fact that the writers have really been driving home the point that he would make a terrible team leader.

Is this being done just to support their reasoning for making Iris the leader in his absence?

the-flash-season-4-episode-15-review-enter-flashtime

Honestly, we saw that Barry was not the greatest teacher for speedsters back in Season 3. He wasn’t talking his time when teaching Jesse in the early episodes of that season, and he was rushing Wally because he wanted him to be the one to save Iris from Savitar.

The-Flash-season-4-1278515

Remember when he froze at the control panel when Iris was trapped under a piece of debris while trying to put out a fire after gaining Barry’s speed? Another example of him being an incompetent teacher to other speedsters.

In Season 4, I feel like he is dumbed down just for the sake of the story. Yes, the comic book version of Barry is very intelligent and can think incredibly fast. I understand that the CW version of Barry is not at that level yet. I am not even sure if he will ever reach that level of skill on the show because any problem that Central City faces would only need Barry and not Team Flash.

However, that does not mean that the writers need to diminish his intelligence so much that he is next to useless.

In previous seasons, we have seen Barry made decisions based on his emotions alone. This has led to some very big mistakes that have cost Barry, Team Flash and the city (sometimes even more than just Central City) a lot. Flashpoint is obviously the biggest consequence of his choices, but there are more that are scattered throughout this series.

The-Flash-Lose-Yourself-Promo

One of the biggest things about Barry that has annoyed me this season is that he has a serious lack of patience for anyone who decides to not go with the plan that he comes up with. This is very relevant to his partnership with Ralph this season.

Yes, I will admit that he was not the nicest hero to ever join Team Flash. The episode with him making nonstop jokes to substitute for his fear was very annoying. For some reason Barry has been written to have a very short fuse this season. Especially when it comes to anyone challenging his authority.

It really rubbed me the wrong way to see Barry like this. In the most recent episode, he is trying to mend the cracks in Cisco’s relationship with Gypsy. Was I the only one that thought about Boy Meets World during this episode?

For anyone born in the 90s, you should know this show well just as the younger generation grew up with Girl Meets World.

girl-meets-world-shawn-reunite-ftr

Cory Matthews had a knack for sticking his nose in places that it did not belong. He would always try to help put his best friend Shawn back together with his girlfriend Angela whenever they were having relationship troubles.

Yes, it was annoying to see how Cory acted. However, his motives were to help his friends for the sake of helping his friends.

rBIomS0oU7jIn5Q0jgmdAJfgRS6

In Barry’s case, he was only pushing Cisco and Gypsy back together because the team was holding on by a thread. Basically, Barry wanted the relationship to heal as soon as possible just so Cisco could get his head in the game because The Thinker is still out there as a major threat.

How much would you want to bet that if Barry was going through a rough patch with Iris that he would be mopping around like someone shot his puppy? You know he would not want to be pushed back into the lab or his home to talk with Iris in the same fashion that he literally pushed Gypsy from Jitters to S.T.A.R. Labs!

It makes my head spin to see how the writers are making Barry act like such a jerk this season!

the-flash-season-4-the-thinker-image-4

Again, I see that they are trying to demonstrate how Devoe and Barry can act like they are the same person. Both are driven when it comes to accomplishing a goal, and that can make them isolate those around them. What separates them is that Barry (sometimes) listens to the people around him when they call him out for his nonsense.

31-the-flash-404.w710.h473

Some of my favorites scenes this season were when Ralph would challenge Barry because he had some legitimate points. I remember when he called out Barry for being so fast, but still allowing their target to escape because he was too worried about bystanders getting caught in the crossfire. However, the episode wrote it so Ralph was wrong and realized where Barry was coming from.

The one fight these two had that I really couldn’t stand was Barry refusing to listen to Ralph about how they should improvise in order to stop The Thinker.

If you ask me, thinking outside of the box seems to be the most effective way of countering Devoe because he claims to have thought about every possible outcome that Barry and the others could think of.

Barry did it once and it worked! Remember when Barry was trapped in Devoe’s pocket dimension? He was inside of that cage that no meta abilities could escape from. Did he escape? Not really…

To trick Devoe into thinking he had escaped, The Flash vibrated his body at such a high speed that it appeared as if he was invisible. This made Devoe deactivate the cage and Barry ran out of there!

How did he accomplish this? By thinking outside of the box! If it worked at such a critical moment for him, why was he so against it when it comes to Ralph?

I could continue this post, but I think this is a good stopping point. What do you think about Season 4 Barry Allen? Do you feel the same way I feel about his character?

The_Flash

Keep in mind that I did not even mention the Speed Force language that he was writing everywhere in Episode 1. It seemed like the story forgot about that plot point as quickly as Barry did by the end of the episode!

the-flash-saeson-4-mystery-girl

Though we did see “Coffee shop girl” writing similar symbols in her journal…

I hope that the writers can turn things around by the end of this season and improve on the writing in Season 5.

Why Doesn’t Team Flash Kill The Thinker? | CW’s The Flash

By Jeremy Carden

This post is related to one of the most emotional episodes of Season 4. “Lose Yourself” certainly was an episode that had me feeling all types of emotions. Sadly, I was more annoyed than depressed over Ralph’s death at the hands of Devoe.

killer06

Alright, I know that different superheroes have their own rules about killing villains.

However, there has to be a point where the consideration of crossing that line needs to be addressed for the sake of the greater good.

No joke, I did enjoy that particular episode of The Flash. I believe it was one of this season’s better episodes. It was cool to see Joe and Iris get victories in their fights. I didn’t even mind Iris too much in that episode.

tumblr_p7ctyuXHHz1tyusgdo4_540

Heck, I think this is the sort of Iris we should have been seeing all season!

lose-yourself

But my main gripe about the episode (as with most episodes this season) is Barry Allen.

A majority of episodes this season have felt sort of rinse-and-repeat in terms of them finding a bus-meta, saying they’ll do whatever it takes to prevent Thinker from stealing their bodies, they fail and then mope at the end of the episode due to their failure.

The-Flash-Lose-Yourself-Promo

Yes, Ralph can be, has been and was an overall tool (just to use the nicest word that I could think of to describe him). However, he was a lovable tool when the script didn’t have him being overly annoying, selfish or afraid.

Seriously, there was a lack of consistency with his character this season. I feel like there were at least three or four episodes about Ralph overcoming fear or his own selfishness for the sake of becoming a hero.

He made a valid point about taking out Devoe FOR GOOD and by ANY means necessary.

16

True, it could be chalked up to him being afraid for his life (because he has every right to be), but I hate how Barry shot him down every chance he got in the episode because Ralph wasn’t following the guidelines of “Mr. and Mrs. Star Labs.”

Funny how Barry is more than willing to beat down his “friends” and “teammates” to keep them in line, but doesn’t show that same kind of gusto when it comes to defeating his enemy.

Now, I’m not saying that anyone who litters or ignores a stop sign deserves to be skewered by Killer Frost, breached to a deserted planet by Vibe or get the “Reverse Flash treatment” through the heart…

However, at what point is enough enough?

DeVoe_absorbs_Ralph

How many metas (and just regular people for that matter) have to die IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES before you decide that it is time to “cross that line” to prevent the enemy from hurting people?

At the end of the season, if the entire planet is on the line because of Devoe’s “enlightenment device” then I don’t want to hear Barry and the others crying about the fate of the world or how they’re not going to fail because they LET things get to level of danger. All of it boils down to them not doing what needed to be done while they still had the chance.

That is why I didn’t care about Barry and the others being sad because the blood of ALL of the pipeline metas and Ralph are on their hands as much as Devoe’s.

tumblr_p7ctyuXHHz1tyusgdo6_540

Going back to what I mentioned above about Iris, I still feel like she was not that annoying in “Losing Yourself.” However, there was one piece of dialogue between her and Ralph that didn’t sit too well with me.

I love how Iris talked to Ralph about not killing the person that wants to kill him. She started off on common ground because she DOES know what kind of situation Ralph is in right now.

For the second half of Season 3, the main focus of Team Flash was to prevent Savitar from killing Iris. She had to deal with the fact that she was possibly living on a ticking clock because everything Team Flash tried ended up failing (until HR sacrificed himself).

31143884_2441431095882994_395356833428013056_n

Here in Season 4, the focus of Team Flash is to prevent Thinker from killing the bus-metas (including Ralph). However, history repeats itself because Thinker is 20+ steps ahead of everything the team can think of. Similar to Savitar, who was a Barry that had lived through everything present Barry had meaning that he would be aware of any tactic that Team Flash thought of if Barry was there to know about it.

So, I agree that Iris can relate to where Ralph was at that point in the season.

However, her saying that killing isn’t the tough call but the wrong one

Eh, hard for her to be the person to say that since she was the one who pulled the trigger leading to Savitar’s death.

How’s that for the pot calling the kettle black?

285803 (2)

Also, wasn’t Iris firing at The Mechanic with lethal shots during their showdown in S.T.A.R Labs? If it wasn’t for her blocking the shots with her blade, then I doubt she would have survived!

I believe Barry mentioned that he knew what Ralph was going through as well. In the sense of wanting to kill his enemy, I could see that being true. He fought the urge to kill Zoom and Reverse Flash at different points in the series.

However, I don’t think he can relate with Ralph when it comes to someone wanting to take his life.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think ANY of the major villains on The Flash have wanted Barry dead. For the most part, they all wanted or needed him alive for their own master plans:

url-6

  • Reverse Flash needed Barry’s speed in order to get back to his own time.
  • Zoom needed Barry’s speed in order to save his life, and then his speed in order to fuel the device he wanted to use to destroy every multiverse aside from Earth-1.
  • Savitar needed Barry alive to ensure his own existence. It was the death of Iris that mattered to him.
  • Devoe needed Barry released from the Speed Force to create the bus-metas. Then needed him out of the way to not interfere in his plans, and in the episode “Therefor She Is” we learned that he has an even bigger need for Barry in the near future. However, he will kill The Flash once that plan is finished; most likely referring to the Enlightenment.

So, I don’t think Barry can say that he knows what it is like to be on the run (no pun intended) for his life as Ralph was this season.

the-flash-lose-yourself-photo004-1523644038203_1280w

It just made me cringe throughout the episode when Barry kept preaching about how they don’t cross that line when it has been crossed SEVERAL times in previous seasons by members of Team Flash.

  • Joe killed Weather Wizard’s brother at the end of the very first episode of The Flash, and then “Flashpoint Joe” killed The Rival. In both scenarios, Barry had defeated them by stopping their cyclones that would have brought major destruction to Central City. Then after assuming the battle was over, the bad guys tried to strike when Barry was vulnerable. Joe shot them in the back to protect Barry and that was that!
  • Iris did the same thing when she shot Savitar in the back (killing him) because Barry had his back turned after defeating him. That could be called poetic justice since Savitar stabbed her in the back resulting in her death in the future that Barry saw earlier that season. However, death is still death!
  • Barry killed two of the Earth-2 doppelgangers during the opening episodes of Season 2! I believe he trapped Atom Smasher in a container where the radiation killed him, and then he killed the “Sandman” after learning how to use his lightning bolt technique from “Jay Garrick.”

Guys, I’m just naming a few deaths that Team Flash caused off the top of my head. Sad to say, but I think there may have been a few that I missed.

Let’s be honest, if Devoe was about to kill Barry and Iris had to make the call; she would have killed him. Just as she did with Savitar when he was about to strike Barry when his back was turned.

tumblr_p7ctyuXHHz1tyusgdo5_540

Heck, I could see Iris looking at Mechanic dead in the face before killing Devoe saying; “You asked me how far was I willing to go to save my husband…” *pulls trigger* “….that’s how far….” all because she loves her man along with demonstrating the strength of their love.

No questions asked if that murder took place, but if one of the other team members wants to kill then it’s a problem????? Heck, remember when Iris stopped Killer Frost from killing Amunet Black after she crashed her bachelorette party?

tumblr_ort74n1DRu1tnvsx0o1_250

Season 3 Caitlin/Killer Frost was right when she told Barry, “But why would you care? You got Iris. You got your happy ending. Everyone else be damned.

All of Team Flash can fall by the wayside, but as long as Mr. and Mrs. Star Labs are alive and well…everyone else be damned.

The Best Tyler Perry Youtube Channel!

By Jeremy Carden

This is a special post dedicated to ALL of “The Haves and the Have Nots” fans that have followed my blog since I got started way back in Season 1 of the show! I really want to make sure that everyone knows about my Youtube channel that is now my outlet for getting my thoughts out there on everything HAHN related.

Screenshot_58

My channel is called “Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots Review.” On the channel, I do what I used to with my blog. I simply talk about the episodes, theories, character breakdowns and other things focused on the show. Not to mention, I also talk about If Loving You Is Wrong, The Payne’s, Tyler Perry movies/plays along with anything in the works within the walls of Tyler Perry Studios.

Last October, I quit my full-time job at the call center to become a full-time Youtuber. For some reason, the channel suddenly exploded with 1000s of new subscribers around last June. The money that I was making via advertisements was enough for me to pay my bills. With this new source of income, I was blessed to dedicate all of my time towards making videos.

Screenshot_21

Currently, the channel has about 450 videos! This is no joke at all because I have a lot to say about The Haves and the Have Nots.

If you have been following my blog since I got started, you know for a fact that the length of the blogs were pretty long. That is because I leave no stone unturned whenever I talk about a possible theory regarding the show.

Now, imagine that in video form meaning you do not have to read a blog that was about 10 miles long!

You also get the benefit of listening to my smooth voice while thinking about whether or not you agree with what I am saying.

e0d3b1cbeab079b5647a690bacaaa41e

Making videos has proven to be a much faster way of getting my thoughts out there. This means you are the ones who win because you get a video to listen as you are doing other things instead of being forced to read a blog while placing everything else on hold.

At this point, the channel is over 17,500+ subscribers! We are knocking on the door of 18,000 at this rate. I do not take any of this success for granted because around this time last year, I barely had 600 subscribers. It is nothing short of a blessing that the channel has grown nearly 30 times in size since then.

Veronica-and-Jeffrey-960x483

What is the point of this blog? Aside from making sure everyone knows where to go if they want my insight on all things HAHN, I need to make a request. Believe it or not, it has nothing to do with money.

The goal for my channel is to reach 100,000+ subscribers.

Let me write that again in case you missed it…

THE GOAL FOR MY CHANNEL IS TO REACH 100,000+ SUBSCRIBERS!

Jim-and-Kathryn

I know that might seem crazy, but I believe we can make it happen. How? We are talking about a hit show on Tuesday nights. A show that was Tyler Perry’s first step into a direction outside of the Madea dress and wig. A show that was not a sitcom with a laugh track behind every line of dialogue. A show that was telling stories that had compelling characters bringing drama into our living rooms every Tuesday night.

This WordPress blog that I started after I was inspired to share my theories with like-minded HAHN addicts has been viewed more than 600,000+ times. Keep in mind, I spent over three years working on this blog without a single cent to show for it. However, a good friend pointed me in the direction of Youtube to widen my audience.

Screenshot_31

My channel has over 3,375,856 views! This is just a testament to how hard work, faith and determination cannot go without being rewarded. At first glance, it might seem like I am throwing out numbers just to boast or sound impressive. I want to stress that it NOT the reason behind this post.

If anything, this is a huge thank you to everyone that has been with me since Day 1 reading my theory blogs that were sometimes right on the money (Candace not being killed by the Malones) and other times off target (Amanda being Celine’s daughter) from what the actual show revealed to us later on down the line.

One of the main reasons I would like to hit over 100,000 subscribers is because channels that hit that milestone are given a special plaque.

maxresdefault (15)

I would love to receive one in the mail that reads: “Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots Review: Congratulations For Surpassing 100,000 Subscribers!

For those of you that have made it this far into the blog, you might be thinking about how you could help me make this dream a reality. If so, the answer is actually pretty simple. All it takes is for you to subscribe to my channel if you have not done so already. You can also share the videos that you like or think are good predictions about the plot. These little things will get my channel out there to those who do not already know about it.

The biggest video on the channel is about the Ice Queen herself! It was my first video to surpass 200,000 views. The video had to do with whether or not she survived the car accident at the end of last season.

Turns out she survived after all, but that cliffhanger had everyone guessing what was going to happen next! Sadly, the accident was resolved a bit too quickly for my taste, but that is besides the point. If this video could surpass 200,000 views in less than 3 months then I know it is possible for this channel to reach 100,000+ subscribers in the near future!

My promise to all of my followers is to provide quality videos. Aside from videos where only my thoughts are discussed, I also do live streams where some fans call me on Google Hangouts. It really gives the channel a radio-like vibe because callers talk with me about all things HAHN.

I guess those three years in the call center paid off because it makes transitioning over to this Youtube platform a lot easier. That just goes to show God does not put you into an arena without some hidden purpose behind it.

If Michael Jackson did not believe in his vision to create the biggest selling album of all time, Thriller would not have been released. The King of Pop believed in his vision and Thriller still stands at the top of the mountain even after his passing. Now, I know I need to believe in myself when it comes to this channel.

Jesus feed the multiple with two fish and five loaves of bread. He will make a way! I am a very independent person, but I have been humbled by this channel. It has shown me that my posts, videos, etc. are not just about me. They are my thoughts, but everyone who comments on them with their perspective keeps the conversion going. In most of my videos, I mention that the comment section is just an extension of my video. The video is the first domino knocking over the next one and there have been some very good conversations on my posts and videos.

Screenshot_202

That is why I am reaching out to everyone out there using every social media platform that I have! I urge you to subscribe, share my channel on your own social media outlets to ensure everyone knows about it.

Aside from hitting my goal of 100,000 subscribers, I want to increase this HAHN family so everyone has a chance to have their voice heard in an outlet with like-minded addicts of this show!

maxresdefault (4)

Sadly, the show will be ending in 2020 because that is when Tyler Perry’s contract with OWN will official come to an end. We will have to say goodbye to HAHN and If Loving You Is Wrong. However, that does not mean these shows will not continue on another network if the fans make enough noise. Trust me, I have no doubt in my mind that all of us together can help the show stay alive.

Remember that the fans were the reason that The Payne’s was brought back from a five year hiatus after that House of Payne cliffhanger.

That is why I do not take my channel lightly because it is a voice for the people who love Tyler Perry’s work. Something else that I would like to make clear is that I never post links or videos of the episodes themselves. That is a serious breach of trust as well as copyright infringement that could get my channel shutdown. Considering this is my one source of income, that would be a very bad idea…

Not to mention, that would be something that is against my own moral code. So, I wanted you to know that my channel is made of original content regarding my thoughts, ideas (as well as your own) about the HAHN along with Tyler Perry’s other shows and movies.

Spirit_Bomb

Keeping an eye on the subscriber number and seeing it increasing makes me feel like Goku collecting energy for his Spirit Bomb.

In case you missed the link above, I wanted to leave a link to my Youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/user/jbiblecarden

I also have other social media outlets that you should follow to make sure you are aware of my posts whenever I add something new to the channel:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through all of this. For those of you that have been supporting me since the start of my HAHN journey, I cannot thank you enough. To those of you that are just joining this big HAHN family, I hope you enjoy the ride because you haven’t seen anything yet!

Please get my channel out there, and I will continue to do more videos. As always, I’ll be doing what I can to keep interest in the show alive and well even during the brief hiatus periods between seasons!

CW’s The Flash | Why is Iris the Team Leader?

By Jeremy Carden

Iris_West_Earth_2_Candice_Patton

Believe it or not, this is NOT I repeat this is NOT a hate post about Iris because we’ve seen enough of that (Even though the show keeps giving us fans fuel to that fire…), and also SPOILERS if you have not seen the mid-season finale.

I really wish the show would add more weight to the whole “Team Leader Iris” thing because I’m still not buying it. I love how Iris makes a “tough call” and get a kiss for it, but Barry makes a tough call (when he isn’t making selfish calls like in previous seasons) and 9 times out of 10 gets crap for it…

the_flash_s04e02_still

Please give me some reasoning as to how she (the least experienced team member) is the leader. Heck even RALPH is more experienced in terms of detective work! Yes, he’d probably blow up STAR Labs in 5 minutes by accident, but still!

It really appears like the other more experienced members of Team Flash are “dumbed down” to make Iris have a moment of “Hey, I’m useful and I’m going to make the obvious/right choice that everyone is for some reason too blind to see!”

the-flash-4x04

If anything, Cisco should have been the one having the moral dilemma of saving both of his best friends when really he should only focus one on problem at a time. Heck, then he and Harry could have a moment and then Ralph as well saying something like; “I think we’re STRETCHING ourselves too thin here…we need to figure out one thing at a time.” THAT would have been a great unity moment in my opinion.

Also, why give Ralph crap about running his mouth and having it be “his fault” Caitlin was captured?

fla405c-0028b-1042195

Remember Iris was the one who told Killer Frost to let “Bucket Lady” walk free instead of killing her a few episodes ago after clearly stating she’d be back for Frost…

I get the whole “no killing” but you could have at least put her in the pipeline…nice call Iris -_

the-flash-season-3-photos-191

Then at the end, “I don’t know how long I can do this…making tough calls…” Then DON’T and leave it to someone else who can actually handle it!

The_Mechanic_Kim_Engelbrecht_and_The_Thinker_Neil_Sandilands

I feel like the only reason she is leader is for her and Barry to be parallel to Thinker and Mechanic in terms of being “partners.”

If you enjoy this post, I hope you subscribe to my Youtube channel where I go into more detail on my thoughts about the Arrowverse.

Why Do Fans Hate Iris West?| CW’s The Flash

by Jeremy Carden

Believe it or not, but I do not actually hate Iris. The title of this post may suggest otherwise, but I just do not care for how the writers have been treating her over the past couple of seasons on The Flash.

fla322c-0115b-996992-625x352

I feel that she was nothing more than a plot device last season when Barry’s life revolved around saving her life from Savitar.

Season 4 is not off to a great start so far because it seems that every episode has at least one Iris West scene that has rubbed fans the wrong way.

In the video below, I go into my full thoughts on why this character has been getting so much hate from the Flash fanbase, and how the writers can turn things around this season!

I feel like there is so much more that could be done with her as a character. I find it ironic that Wally West was highly underutilized as a hero once Barry came out of the Speed Force. As a result, he has left the show (temporarily).

Instead of properly utilizing Iris, she has been given a more ‘important role’ as a character. However, this has caused her to act out of character for the most part so far this season.

Seriously, eloping in a church that has just finished a funeral? I cannot believe she was giving Barry crap last season for getting engaged in order to change the future to save her life from Savitar!

One of the biggest things has been the line about how Barry is not the Flash, but “we are the Flash…” Believe it or not, but I think this line is proper because Barry has been going on and on about how there is no Flash without Iris.

One of the best (worst) things is that even though Iris has done a lot of things that have ticked off fans, I will say that we have been able to get some great memes online after each episode!

Do you hate Iris or have you become numb to her character on the show?

Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots Theory: Is Katheryn Dreaming Everything That Has Happened?

By Jeremy Carden

haveshavenots_toodarnht

Once again, my mother has brought up a very plausible theory about the TV show that gets us excited about Tuesday nights!

 haves and have nots 58

Here is the topic of this HAHN Theory Blog: Is Katheryn Cryer dreaming everything that is occurring in the show?

Stop for a second and just think about it (that was what I had to do when my mother brought it to my attention). I know it seems unlikely and confusing to even consider it being plausible. By now, you should know that when I make these blog with theories that seem impossible there are always facts to back up my claims.

My mom and I hashed things out as best we could and it seems that Katheryn has been dreaming everything that has been going on since halfway through Season 1. We have reason to believe this “dream” began at 1 of 2 possible points in the beginning of the series.

1. After Hanna gave Katheryn some weed to smoke, it is possible that it gave her an “extended high” if you will. We all know that she was literally on Cloud 9 after she had her first joint. One of my favorite scenes from the series so far was when Celine was suspicious of a familiar aroma in the house. She suspected that someone had been smoking weed, but she did not know who. At first, she said that if Wyatt were at home then it would be easy to deduce that it was him. However, the only people in the house were her, Hanna, and Katheryn (Jim was at his office).

3097180-7125308086-The_J

The part the cracked me up (no pun intended) was when Katheryn came down the stairs with a grin on her face that made her look like the Joker! She asked Hanna to come with her for a second and when they were alone she asked for some more. Hanna refused saying that it was only something to be used when necessary.

If I remember correctly, that was the first time in her life that she had smoked and it is possible she experienced a reaction to being high that made her dream everything that has happened since that moment.

2. Now for the second and more probable scenario, we need to take a look at the time Katheryn was in the hospital undergoing surgery for her breast cancer.

There are many pieces of evidence during this time that made my mom suspect that Katheryn was put into a dreamlike state of mind.

First off, she had to be knocked out before going into surgery and afterwards she was probably asleep as well. So her mind could have slipped away and she has been dreaming everything that has occurred from that point onward. When she wakes up with Hanna at her bedside that would have been the beginning of her dream.

Another time when this could have occurred was when she suddenly started coughing and gasping for air. She asked Hanna to run and get the doctors so that is another possible moment when she passed out and began dreaming everything that has been going on.

ep113-own-hhn-3-365x240

Here is the piece of evidence that tipped my mom off to this possibly being a dream; remember when Hanna stepped out of the room and came back in only to see Katheryn fully dressed and standing beside her bed?

My mom said, “Listen, just seeing her jump up like that despite having just gone through surgery and whatnot didn’t make any sense to me.”

I tried to counter that by elaborating on the fact that she was in extreme discomfort because Hanna told her that the doctors said she needed to stay in bed for at least a couple more days until she could get back on her feet.

The reason she rushed out of bed was because Hanna had told her Amanda was in the hospital as well for trying to take her life.

ep111-own-hhn-9-365x240

Despite hospital policy, she declined coming out of the hospital room and building in a wheelchair because she needed to put on the facade that she was completely fine. It turns out that was the best strategy because the moment her and Hanna came around the corner, standing in front of her was Amanda, Jim and Wyatt.

I went on to mention that even after Katheryn got home; she was stuck in bed for a couple of days trying to recover from her surgery.

What made our theories come full circle was after I mentioned one extremely important and nearly forgotten piece of the puzzle from Season 1: the video will that Hanna has of Katheryn on camera!

Honestly, how many of you have forgotten about it? I don’t blame you because it was something that only appeared at the beginning of one episode and hasn’t been brought up again since. I believe it was right before Katheryn went into surgery and she had Hanna record it for her.

My personal observation was that the video will was Tyler Perry’s way of foreshadowing the eventual death of Katheryn Cryer.

c640x360_22

I know many fans (including myself and my mom) compare the relationship/friendship of Katheryn and Hanna to that of Charlotte and Alice from The Family that Preys movie. That makes a lot of sense because one is a “Have” and the other is a “Have Not.” Most people associate those phrases with a person who is wealthy and another who is not. However, it should be mentioned that in life and most of Tyler Perry’s writing, to be rich is not always about monetary value. It is about soul, family and having the things in life that truly make it all worthwhile.

*In the movie, Charlotte tells Alice that she was was suffering from Alzheimer’s which alters a person’s memory and causes the mind to decline. While this theory is about Katheryn dreaming up everything that is occurring in the show within her own mind. Not to mention in the HAHN, Katheryn is suffering from breast cancer (which Hanna did as well prior to the beginning of the series) and only Hanna knew about it*

HHN_C2_The_Black_Sedan_002.jpg

According to her will, Jim is to receive not one cent of her money while her children will receive their inheritance which is $12 million. However, if any of them were to battle against the stipulations of the will then they will be immediately removed from the will and their share of the money will go to charity. Either that or it would be divided by the remaining people still listed in the will.

*Keep in mind that I’m writing this entire thing from memory and some of the details are a bit fuzzy in my head. So if I make small mistakes in the details then please be understanding*

Since Amanda is planning on suing her parents for the inheritance based on Katheryn’s will she is to be removed from it!

Putting the evidence together, I do believe that my mom is onto something here with her theory. We finally broke it down by going over how Katheryn “knows” everything that is going on in the world around her or the one she has created in her subconscious.

images

She knew that Jeffery was gay so that part of her “dream” makes sense because she knew he is attracted to men (and in this case her own son because of the time they spend together while he is in rehab).

Summer OWN

Depending on when her dream started (smoking the joint or when she was in the hospital), she knew Candace was having an affair with her husband. She gave her famous #9 speech before going into the hospital for surgery. I told my mom that she knew about the affair long before that because of the “cheap lipstick and perfume” she saw and smelled on Jim’s clothes. The interesting part about this is that it is not revealed to her that Candace is Hanna’s daughter until AFTER she gets out of the hospital. Keep in mind though that Hanna did tell her while she was lying in the hospital bed that she had a daughter and son. While her son (Benny) was a good boy, her daughter (Candace) was one to raise hell.

Katheryn could relate because her son (Wyatt) was the one that raised hell (like Candace), and her daughter (Amanda) was sweet and caring (like Benny) but is innocent and naïve.

haves-havenots6

She knows David is the opposite of Jim in terms of being a loving husband along with Veronica being an overbearing mother to Jeffery.

Finally, we move on to her children and how this dream possibly made her see the worst of them.

The-Scarecrow-in-the-elevator-batman-arkham-asylum-24368294-1366-768

I’m going to go into “nerd-mode” for a second here; if you are familiar with the Batman villain The Scarecrow then you know about his fear toxin. The purpose of this gas is to make anyone who breathes it in to hallucinate and see their deepest and darkest fears brought to the surface.

frankmiller-asbar-child-01

In Katheryn’s case, it seems that her fears about her children go back to that summer at camp when they were sexual abused by the priests. When affected by the gas, Batman sometimes remembers the death of his parents and feels an extreme amount of guilt because he blames himself for what happened that night when he asked them to leave the movie theater early.

ep117-own-hhn-9-365x240

Katheryn feels an extreme amount of guilt because she wasn’t there that summer to protect them. It was Jim who was supposed to be there watching their kids but for whatever reason he wasn’t. During his absence, that was when Amanda and Wyatt were taken advantage of and what resulted in her harming herself while Wyatt drank and smoked his pain away.

Whether it was the weed or the medication that put her to sleep in the hospital, Katheryn’s deepest fears have been brought to the surface and she is dreaming everything that has occurred so far.

1389968478-0

She knows that her husband is a cheat, underhanded and will do whatever it takes to come out on top even if it means killing. That explains the part of her dream where Candace is kidnapped and “killed.” She knows about his other 8 mistresses and you could associate fear in that scenario being that she is very afraid of Jim knocking up another woman. Though based on recent episodes, you could deduce that Celine was one of those women who had a child by Jim which explains why she isn’t fired and refuses to quit.

zap-the-haves-and-the-have-nots-season-2-photo-002

In terms of Wyatt’s behavior and him hitting Benny along with that little girl, her fears would be that drinking and doing drugs would not only affect him but also the people around him. One of the worst things that could happen if he continued on his path of self-destructive behavior was taking the life of another person.

Screenshot_4

The same could be said about her fears of Amanda’s self-destructive behavior eventually being taking out on another person.

I could go on and on down the list, but I will end it right there because the two of us agreed that there are so many possible scenarios that could come with this theory.

The_Haves_and_The_Have_Nots_S01E23_mp41551

One final thing my mom brought up was that it was just suspicious and strange that Jim would still be running for governor despite everything that is happening in his family. I mentioned that Jim isn’t the only politician (in real life) who has run for office despite not having a skeleton but an entire cemetery in his closet.

So there you have it, Katheryn suddenly jumping out of bed after surgery and Jim running for office despite everything that is going on was why my mom brought up this theory.

The video will Hanna recorded could possibly foreshadow Katheryn’s death, but that has yet to be seen.

PS1E1_screenshot22

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of “coma theories” because I grew up watching Pokemon as a child. One popular theory is that in Episode 1 after Pikachu defeated all of those Spearow with an electric attack, Ash was knocked out and put into a coma. Ever since that episode, he has been dreaming about all of his adventures and that explains why he is still 10-years-old despite the show airing on TV for well over a decade now.

WhoShotJR

To me it just feels like a slap in the face to the audience because everything they’ve been watching has been a lie, but that is just me. If this is indeed a correct theory, would I be upset? Well kind of, but it is creative writing I will say that much. My mom brought up something like this occurring in an old show called “Dallas.” Yeah, it was way before my time and I had no idea what she was talking about. She explained to me how it was soap opera that was like the HAHN because it had amazing cliffhangers. There was a character she mentioned named J.R. I believe who was placed into a coma or something and dreamed the events of the series for a certain amount of time.

Could Tyler Perry be recreating that scenario in the HAHN? Well it is very likely, but in any case I cannot wait to see if this is a legit theory or not!

Young Justice: How Robin Became “The Batman”

by Jeremy Carden

images (16)

From the first episodes of Young Justice, we saw that 13-year-old Dick Grayson was a very capable fighter, strategist and skilled at acrobatics (due to his prior life as a circus performer). He had been holding the mantel of Robin since the age of 9, and 4 years under the studies of Batman equipped him with the skills need to be a great crime fighter and detective.

images (19)

In the episode “Drop Zone” he wanted nothing more than to be the leader of the Team. As the episode went on, we caught a glimpse at some of the reasons that he would not make a very good leader and Aqualad was the one to point it out to him;

images (13)

  1. He is smart but kind of impulsive like Kid Flash
  2. His age makes him a bit more immature than the others
  3. He disappears expecting the others to play a role in his “unknown plans”
  4. The fact that he has the most experience is also the thing that prevents him from being a good leader because despite working with Batman this long, he hasn’t been in a role where he was working with people less experienced than him
  5. Robin says himself that he doesn’t want to be responsible for holding everyone’s hands

images (29)

After Aqualad’s speech, he decided it was best for Aqualad to take on that role. He accepted but felt that Robin was the one destined to be team leader and he would serve as the leader until the right time for Robin to take over came.

images (22)

Aside from missions, let’s talk about Dick himself. He did “relinquish” his desires of being Team Leader but did feel hurt when Batman wanted to see “just Aqualad” after a mission.

images (1)

In one of those touching moments, we see Bruce and Dick play one on one basketball as a “training exercise” for hand/eye coordination. That was a great scene! It really felt like a father/son moment in this series and I couldn’t help but smile about it.

Young-Justice-01x16-Failsafe-36-600x337

Moving on to “Failsafe” we really see a character shift for Dick and it was verbally spoken during his talk with Black Canary in “Disordered.”

images (4)

During the telepathic training, Aqualad acted as a solider instead of the leader sacrificing himself in order to save Martian Manhunter from the alien’s disintegration beams.

Robin was the one to take over as leader and as the battle went on it seemed clear that he was playing the role of Batman; sacrificing everything in order for the mission to succeed.

Superboy_fights_the_mothership

He sent Superboy in first as a distraction to draw the alien’s fire away long enough for he, Kid Flash, Miss M and Man Hunter to sneak onto the Mother ship.

images (31)

Inside, he confirmed to Kid Flash that the energy beams killed anyone hit with them not just teleporting them inside of the ship.

images (32)

When he and Wally finally reached the energy core of the ship and he placed the explosives, Wally figured out that Dick knew about this all along.

Similarities...uncanny

Similarities…uncanny

Robin had deduced the truth about how their friends and mentors had died after being zapped by the beams and he was now on a suicide mission to end the threat at all costs.

images (14)

In the next episode, he tells Black Canary that right from the start he wanted nothing more than becoming the leader. After the mission in the previous episode, he discovered that the thing inside of Batman that allows him to do anything “for the sake of the mission” is something that he really doesn’t see in himself. He then tells her that after sacrificing himself and his friends, he didn’t want to become “THE Batman” anymore. It seems that Black Canary stayed true to her word in that the conversation would stay between the two of them.

images (14)

In “Images” he was placed as Team Leader by Batman since Aqualad was away on a mission with Aquaman. Kid Flash was quick to congratulate Robin on his “promotion” only for Robin to sigh in disappointment. Most likely he was still no longer interested in leading after the events of “Failsafe.”

images (11)

Then in “Agendas” during the League’s meeting about new additions, Batman revealed why he let Robin become his partner at the age of 9; so that he could bring in the people responsible for his parent’s death. Wonder Woman asked if it was so he could become like him. Batman replied that it was so he WOULDN’T.

It took me awhile but I know what he means by that now. Bruce was shocked and damaged by his parent’s death and wasn’t able to do anything about bringing in Joe Chill (or whoever the person responsible in that “universe” was) so he never really had closure to that part of his life and he holds on to that pain as seen in various forms of media featuring Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Not only with his parents but in any situation where he loses a loved one of friend, he usually isolates himself to brood. As Wonder Woman put it in “Hereafter” in Justice League the Animated Series; “He doesn’t handle loss very well…”

Jason and Dick are somewhat the same in that respect but Batman never wanted Dick to live "his" life of vengeance

Jason and Dick are somewhat the same in that respect but Batman never wanted Dick to live “his” life of vengeance

Dick Grayson on the other hand, thanks to Batman was able to do something about it and bring in the people responsible. No matter what comic book storyline or TV show, Dick Grayson can never be as obsessed as Bruce Wayne in the crusade against crime. That is because unlike Bruce, Dick had closure I suppose is the best way of putting it in terms of bringing in those who killed his parents.

2313268-tumblr_m31ks8kf8a1rntmaxo1_1280

I wish we could have seen those two talk about this; Dick doesn’t want to become the Batman anymore and it turns out Bruce never wanted that for him from the beginning. If I were to speculate, it might have been something that came up during Dick’s decision to move out on his own and become Nightwing.

971875_148114265385638_1306860586_n

We saw this go down in Batman the Animated Series, wish the same would have went down in Young Justice…

images (5)

In “Performance” we do see that he is still carrying some of the sadness of his parent’s death.

images (5)

He was so determined to clear the name of the circus that he was willing to catch a thief even not at 100% (due to Parasite taking his strength) until the Team told him they had to regroup.

images (6)

An interesting note is that he took it upon himself to recruit some of the Team members for a “secret mission” when in reality it was a “private mission” to prove the innocence of Haley’s Circus from recent thefts and the team successfully stopped the Parasite in the process.

images (21)

I think we get a look at Robin’s first use of “win at all cost” tactics in the final episode of Season 1, when he and Superboy team up to fight Batman and Superman. After taking out Batman, Superboy grabbed on to Superman. Robin asked if Conner was sure about using the Kryptonite but after Conner said do it, he whipped it out long enough to weaken them both and use the Cure-o-tech to free the brainwashed Man of Steel.

images (6)

It was a small use of “win at all cost even if it hurts my teammates” moment because Robin asked Superboy’s permission BEFORE using the green rock but still I thought it was worthy of note.

images (20)

Jumping 5 years later, we see Nightwing now in command of the Team. It is said that in YJ Legacy, we’ll see why most of the characters had a drastic change in character before the start of Invasion so I’ll just be using evidence from Season 2 for right now.

images (10)

He, Kaldur, Wally and Artemis were in on their plot to make it seem like Aquald went rogue and joined Black Manta, faked Artemis’ death so she could join Aqualad, Dick took over as Team Leader and Wally was in “retirement.”

images (4)

When Batman left with the others to get their names cleared on trial. it became official that Dick was really in this “alone” so to speak. However as I mentioned before, he was more than ready to use what he had learned. Even Batman said before departing that he was afraid that the most difficult job lies with Nightwing’s Team.

images (25)

So here we see him playing “Batman” doing whatever it takes for the sake of the mission putting his friend’s lives in danger (but not without consulting them about it first), deceiving the others and so on.

images (6)

In “Alienated” we see Batman confident enough in Dick’s abilities as his own man/leader as he was the one leading the mission and of course anytime we see the Bat-family in action is something worth being cheerful about!

images (24)

One thing that was hard to deal with during Season 2, was the rift in the bro-mance of Dick and Wally that we saw in Season 1.

images (34)

Remember when these two were together even in the thick of a dangerous mission, they’d crack jokes?

Well in this season, he is worried about Nightwing and all of the risks that he is taking so the jokes were few and in between alright and for good reason.

images (26)

Not just because his girlfriend is in the hands of the enemy in disguise but also because Dick is putting ALL of his team members at risk.

images (1)

I liked when he was doing his own investigation for evidence on War World. I know it was kind of the subplot of the episode but it was really something seeing him doing his own work using what Batman taught him.

images (2)

Of course his own version of the “Bat-glare” was something to see!

I wonder how Batman (who I believe to know about this entire rouse from the beginning since he is Batman after all) fells about this because he never wanted Dick to become “him.”

images

At the end of “Summit” Dick hands over leadership of the Team back to Aqualad. He is hesitant at first praising Nightwing’s success as leader but Nightwing doesn’t have any second guesses about getting “that monkey off his back.”

The_Warworld_is_activated

When the Warworld is reactivated and leaves Earth’s orbit, Nigthwing say “The Warworld has been activated and it’s leaving Earth’s orbit!! Um…is this good news or bad?” I was laughing so hard because for the first time in Season 2 we see the “old Dick Grayson” with his witting sense of humor.

So, the “old Dick Grayson” never really went away, he was acting as “Batman” because he had to due to the circumstances. If there is a Season 3, will we ever see Nightwing in a position like this again? Hard to tell but in any case, it will be interesting to see what he did after taking a break from the Team.

images (12)

Even as Team Leader, he wasn’t above taking the time needed to help out his friends as seen when he and the others tried to reach out to the Red Arrow to embrace his life as a person and not a clone.

images

Not to mention he seems to be like a big brother for Tim, showing him the ropes of being Robin and also boosting his confidence by putting him on missions as Team Leader of the group he sends out on a case.

Happy-Birthday-Nightwing-young-justice-33796682-500-484

Of course like the “Bruce Wayne playboy persona” Dick Grayson isn’t one to be afraid of the ladies!

I’ve always wondered about Dick Grayson/Artemis…

images (3)

Wally after losing to Black Canary; “Hurts so good…” I think of that every time I see this scene

images (2)

Um…

Wonder if Tim took some notes from Dick’s playbook since those two aren’t shy around blondes;

images (13)

“C-O-O-L”

Looks like Tim learned from the best!
