With the Season 3 finale finally over, I have been asked about which blog will be posted first. There have been so many things going through my mind since Tuesday night, and I have not written a blog because it is difficult to know where to begin!

Screenshot_24

The most requested blog from my readers is on the subject about my feelings towards Candace. More specifically, I have been asked whether or not I felt sorry for what she went through in the finale.

Considering that 3 seasons have come and gone, I will mainly focus on Season 3 (with some evidence from the previous 2 seasons). There is just so much to cover, but I feel that most of her real character development came from Seasons 2 and 3.

I am referring to her being abducted by the Malones, seeking revenge on Jim and her behavior throughout the most recent season. As you can see, it is a blending of the second part of Season 2 and the majority of Season 3.

the-haves-and-have-nots-own-ratings

At the start of Season 2, Jeffrey warned Candace about messing around with the Cryers. It was during this time that Candace revealed a bit about her background. She told Jeffrey that she fears NOTHING, but he was quick to call her out for that. He mentioned that it was a scary thought to even process. A person who fears nothing has nothing that they care about or love. That was a truly defining moment, and it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Overall, I think it is safe to assume that Quincy Jr. and Benny are the two things that she will protect with everything that she has. This was what I originally thought until we saw that Candace’s fears Quincy more than she cares about anything.

Remember that Candace split the scene after learning that Quincy had been to the hospital. However, it was not mentioned that he attacked Aaliyah and took documents from her purse. We know that it had the location of Candace’s house, and that is why Quincy knew where she would be in the finale.

Instead of going in the room to see her son, Candace left the hospital in a hurry. It was plain to see that her fear of Quincy trumped everything else. I mean there were a few cops in the hospital after he came the first time. This was the final straw that broke the camel’s back, and that is why Hanna was given custody of Quincy Jr.

ep131-own-hhn-12-949x534

After her experience with the Malones, we know that Candace fears death. No matter how fearless she “pretends” to be in order to intimidate her enemies; Candace is not as invulnerable as she tries to be.

She was literally in tears while pleading for her life before one of the Malone boys pulled the trigger (right next to her head). I thought it would have been a major wakeup call for her, and that she would finally begin to see the error of her ways. Jeffrey’s words had come to pass about the Cryers being ruthless, and she lost everything when she returned to her apartment. Jim had removed Amanda’s things along with Candace’s possessions.

However, she went right to Warlock for a plan to exact revenge on Jim! This confirmed that she had learned nothing from her last encounter with Jim except for how to get back at him.

ep132-own-hhn-5-949x534

Her role in the later part of Season 2 was simply her on the run from Quincy until she had the right time to strike back at Jim. We caught glimpses of her fear of Quincy when Warlock told her that he was out of prison, and after she found out that Amanda was “dating” him.

Now we move into Season 3, and this is the part of Candace’s story arc that makes me feel a bit like “she got what she deserved” when I look at the things that happened to her towards the end of the season.

Fans are going on and on about how Candace didn’t deserve this, Candace didn’t deserve that and whatnot.

12072721_1261576870535095_112248355617356106_n

It is almost as if everyone has forgotten about her abducting Jim from his home, and had him in the “War Room” during the night before his press conference.

Think about ALL of the things that she did to him before finally letting him go:

  • She recorded the entire thing
  • He was sexually abusing and making him worship her
  • Strapped him to an electric chair
  • A horde of transsexuals came into the mix for photos
  • Numerous contracts giving her his car, a statement of him being insanely in love with her, etc.
  • Extorted $7.4 million from his bank account

screenshot_6

Overall, Candace broke Jim’s spirit! It was bad enough that he received a beating from Quincy the night before, and now Candy Cane broke him down even further!

That bus pass and his experience in the ghetto was something that I am sure he will never forget. The icing on the cake was finding out his daughter had killed herself the night that he was kidnapped.

ep134-own-hhn-8-949x534

However, it is worthy of note that if Jim was not kidnapped; Amanda was going to shot him because he was “Moe.”

Back to Candace, she now has millions in her bank account. What is she going to do now?

HHN_C2_Wyatts-Nightmare_018

Towards the halfway point of Season 2, she told Jeffrey that she was moving down to Atlanta to start over (it was mentioned that Quincy’s mother had moved down to Atlanta; keep that in mind for potential plot material in Season 4).

War told her that with some money in her pockets and Quincy out looking for her; Candace’s best move would be to split town.

Instead of listening to the wise thug’s advice, she decided to stay in town. Her reasoning was to live it up in Jim’s face. We all know that the best revenge is rubbing success in another person’s face right?

Too bad that led to her getting knocked down flat on her face on multiple occasions in Season 3…

Screenshot_9

After acquiring her ill-gotten funds, it appeared that Candace did not have any plans about getting involved with another man for quite some time. That was until Oscar entered the picture, and even Candace was quick to call him out for not being who he appeared to be.

Eventually, she allowed him into her life by giving her advice on auctions. This eventually led to the two getting into bed until Hanna knocked on her hotel door looking for Benny.

She then cuddled with Oscar the entire night, and then went to Hanna’s house the next morning.

Screenshot_33

Similar to her being abducted by the Malones, I was under the impression that Candace would tone down her ways after learning that her son was still alive. She was originally under the impression that Quincy Jr. was killed by Quincy.

Sadly, this was not true at all…

The morning of Amanda’s funeral, Candace went to Hanna’s house and was informed that her son WAS still alive!

Screenshot_25

Hanna said it best by telling Candace that instead of going to Amanda’s funeral (where she had no business going in the first place); she should be using her “resources” to find out where her son was! I will get into this point later because it speaks so much truth.

Maggie, David and Jeffrey said that with Amanda dead and the Cryer family in mourning; Candace had no reason to go to see Jim!

According to Candace, she just wanted to “pay her condolences.” That was basically her poking the dog with a stick as David put it. Now Candace has done some lowdown things throughout the series, but this was just too much if you ask me.

ep108-own-hhn-3-600x411

The man who you extorted money from and humiliated had just lost his daughter! Not to mention she was indirectly responsible for her suicide by using her as a pawn to get at Jim.

Honestly, this is another argument in itself because of the “he said/she said” debate regarding Professor Cannon. You know the scenario of what would have happened if Candace did not persuade Amanda to try and “seduce” Cannon into giving her a makeup exam in the first place; would she have gotten raped?

Screenshot_26

It truly was a disgusting sight when she was throwing herself in front of Jim and Katheryn. Jeffrey, Wyatt and Hanna were trying to get her away from the Cryers. Even David and Veronica were trying to get her to leave the cemetery because she had no business there to begin with.

Finally, Katheryn invited her to the mansion. Hanna and Jeffrey told her to NOT enter that front door…

We all know it led to her being knocked out cold with that bottle, which she deserved!

Screenshot_11

She actually told the truth for once (well a half truth) about Amanda killing herself most likely as a result of being raped. However, she made it seem as if it was Jim’s fault by saying that Amanda was not doing anything that anyone else was doing in order to pass. That made it seem like Jim told Amanda that while she was in the hospital after trying to take her own life through a pill overdose.

It was actually her being raped by Cannon, and THEN taking those pills that made Amanda go into the hospital! Candace was flipping the script to make Jim feel guilt for the situation!

Screenshot_17

From there, Candace got closer and closer to Oscar. Another thing that made me want Hanna to gain custody of Quincy Jr. came in the form of Candace going to New York with Oscar.

Why is that a bad thing?

She KNEW her son (who she thought was dead for the past 3 years) was alive, and traveled from Georgia to New York instead of looking for him!!! Say what you want about Hanna being a fake Christian or a hypocrite, but down at the core that woman loves and cares for that little boy more than his own mother does!

hannah-qunicy-hahn

Hanna took care of him for the first couple of years of his life (2 or 3 years), but Candace came and took him back. This led to him being “killed” by Quincy (really in Quita’s “care” for 3 years while Quincy was in jail).

For Candace to have the nerve to try and get custody was something else. Yes, I know that she is his mother. It actually appeared that she was going to take care of him A LOT better than she did after taking him away from Candace all of those years ago. She had a nice house, money and was on route to become a lawyer.

12011162_10153592432058119_8676135903021593258_n

However, we all know that those things were achieved through extortion, greed and cheating. None of those things were acquired the through hard work and honesty.

Hanna said it best when she told Candace that she could provide Quincy Jr. with a stable home and love because he was the apple of her eye. The only danger that I saw with him staying with Hanna was that Quincy would be looking around for him at her house. This turned out to be correct after he drove a car through it!

Candace has far too many enemies, and the fact that her house was bought under such false pretenses means that it would eventually fall (her money is gone so she can’t afford to keep it!).

Screenshot_11

Again, I do not doubt that Candace loves Quincy Jr. but she is more in love with her dangerous way of living and a fear of Quincy that trumps even her own son!

Finally, I can get into the finale itself! I have wanted to write on this for awhile. Hanna and Benny confronted Candace about her quick rise to the “Have” status.

10984560_10204611420592080_2284267171508690971_n

In the near future, I will write a blog about Hanna’s character throughout Season 3. For now, I will say that she did come down a bit too hard on Candace. She did not give her the benefit of the doubt, but has Candace actually given Hanna any proof of doing something for someone other than herself?

The proof is in the pudding, and Candace has never been seen stirring a bowl…

Hanna was a bit quick to blame Candace for destroying her house. I will admit that was a bit harsh, and even Benny called her out for it.

For once, Candace WAS telling the truth to Hanna and Benny. However, she was only revealing what she wanted to. I mean she told them about the amount of money she acquired. Not to mention the cars, houses and tow company were legit.

They were paid for in a legit fashion, but the way that she got the $7 million was not!

11048789_10204621639727552_6634014334107443968_n

Benny eventually sided with his mother after finding out that Candace lied to him about where she worked. I have an older sister, and I know when it comes to siblings there is a relationship. It is one thing to lie and hide things from our parents. However, when one of us lies to the other about something; it is a problem! It makes sense why Benny felt betrayed after everything they had been through together.

He went behind Hanna’s back to foreclose on the house to pay for Candace’s hospital bills after being beaten nearly to death by Quincy. Then he lied to Hanna about how he got the house/tow company, and that was out of character for him.

Now for Candace to lie to him about her job and how she bought all of these new things really pierced him through the heart!

Within the first 10 minutes of the episode, Candace lost her connection to her family. Then it was discovered that one of the few men that she has trusted in her life had now betrayed her by taking her money (Oscar).

12036631_10205157864852845_7075788191364366444_n

After finding out that Oscar was a fraud, she attempted to murder him. He then tackled her to the couch, and just as it appeared that she had been rescued by an unknown friend; it turned out to be Quincy.

I guess that if anyone was going to beat on Candace, Quincy was going to be the only one to do it!

For what seemed to be 20 minutes of a merciless beating, Jeffrey came into the house and carved Quincy’s back like a Thanksgiving turkey! That was where Season 3 came to an end, and a pool of blood was expanding on Candace’s floor.

Alright, now the question remains about how I feel regarding Candace’s fall in the season finale.

Do I feel sorry for Candace?

Yes…and no…

I am not saying that as a copout answer, but I do feel like a seesaw when thinking about the question.

Screenshot_41

Overall, I am not a person who goes “HA, YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVE!” (Most of the time…) However, Hanna said what goes around comes around. Candace has been on the top for this entire season, and it was good to see her knocked from her high horse (literally).

Screenshot_29

The same can be said about Veronica, but I think her comeuppance will come soon or later. We got a taste of this during Maggie’s visit to her house in the episode before the finale.

I was ok with her losing the money because it was not hers to begin with, but I still cannot see why Oscar willingly went back to Candace’s house after taking the money. I know his career is about reclaiming assets for the people he is hired by, but I am assuming he has never dealt with a “mad black woman” before. If he had, I am sure that he would have known better than to go to her house!

Screenshot_6

Another blog I will do soon is going to be on my thoughts about Oscar being revealed to be a false persona. Don’t worry if you feel that I did not discuss it a lot in this post, but I will get to it soon enough.

I was a bit saddened to see her heart crushed because Oscar was probably the first man that she had ever felt something for instead of conned. However, she was broken just as Jim was earlier in the season.

Candace’s beating was frightening to see, but I think the worst part was seeing the fear in her eyes. I mean her family walked out on her, all of her money was gone, the man she began to fall for turned out to be a fake and unknown to her was Hanna getting custody of Quincy Jr.

However, I feel that none of that compared to Candace’s fear of Quincy becoming a reality when he stepped out of the shadows.

11988408_1259347714091344_8947682856119250085_n

The way that she attempted to flee, but was thrown down to the floor was heart wrenching to watch. Sure she was getting beaten, but hearing her cries for Quincy to stop made me cringe.

It truly was a horrifying thing to witness! Again, she did have a lot to answer for, but even I couldn’t take watching it finally happen.

You could just see the fear in her eyes as Quincy wrapped his hands around her throat…

11178188_1259532994072816_4304584695600378353_n

Now that Quincy has died (still not sure if he is really dead), she now has to find a way to dispose of the body and deal with Jim (because she thinks he is responsible for Oscar). Season 4 will open up with Candace having to deal with far more problems than solutions.

With all of that being said, I do not feel sorry for Candace in the sense that she got what was coming to her; the money being returned to its rightful owner, her family learning the truth behind her lies, etc.

I did feel sorry for her nearly being beaten to death because that is something no one deserves to go through. Especially when a man is putting his hands on a woman!

12039176_852045614891056_7678163664381958652_n

Then seeing someone that she finally opened up to turning out to be a façade was a tough pill to swallow as well…

Candace lost pretty much everything except for her life in this finale.

10429292_10203512756166156_8433209555738058773_n

When you think about it, Candace went through almost the same thing that Jim did. Remember in the Season 2 finale, Celine was told off by Jim when all she wanted was for him to be a father to Carlos. Jim wrote her off as someone who just wanted money, and he did not want to have anything to do with her or his son(s). This was right after he covered up Wyatt’s hit-and-run charges with Norman, and he then lied to Amanda’s face about his affair with Candace.

Sad to say that was the last time that he ever saw his daughter alive, and for him to have lied to her…Jim truly regretted that decision…

That was when everything started to fall apart for him in the finale. Like Candace, he was beaten down by Quincy. His lies were starting to come into the light in front of his family, and his life began to crumble as well. Like how he lost his daughter, most of “his” money (really Katheryn’s) and his political career.

The-Haves-and-the-Have-Nots-Season-1-Episode-20-Unanswered-Calls

Candace “lost” her son to Hanna, “her” money is gone and her law career is in shambles thanks to her never getting another letter from Professor Cannon (before he got killed) allowing her to skip to the bar exam.

Screenshot_33

Veronica is coming out as one of the front runners of the show in terms of “the one character you love to hate.” However, the main plot of the series is still revolving around Jim and Candace.

Deep down, I believe that no one is above redemption. Candace still has the chance to see the errors of her ways, and start living a life pleasing to God. That is what Hanna told Benny, and why she did not believe that she had a real job.

She said it best by telling Benny that when a person truly has a godly experience and breakthrough; you will see a true change in them and how they are living their life. Candace has yet to see the light as Hanna did in the past. This is why Hanna does not trust Candace, but I will get into that subject in another blog.

11880626_10204917851572663_1569380142509859390_n

I do believe she can become a good mother and person, but she has to realize that her current way of living is not good for anyone; especially herself!

I am very interested in seeing where things will go for Candace in Season 4. Needless to say, I think the same can be said for everyone of us!
